  • The trio of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic remain as the best players on tour
  • Former US Open winner Marin Cilic thinks there are more stars on the rise in years to come
  • Players such as Dominic Thiem, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev are among the favored young stars to step up in years to come

The tennis season has been on hold for months and the tour’s remaining days in the calendar seem unlikely to push through. But with everything that is happening, tennis star Marin Cilic shared that the tennis roster is still improving despite the global pandemic.

It is known that Federer, Nadal and Djokovic are among the best to ever step foot on the tennis court. The achievements of the three have surpassed everyone’s expectations as the trio has been constantly thrown in the greatest of all-time discussion.

These three are the biggest icons in the sport as they continue to take control of the tennis scene.

Their achievements have been immense as Federer currently leads all male players with the most Grand Slams. The 20 majors Federer may seem untouchable but Nadal has slowly caught up. The Spaniard has tallied a total of 19 Grand Slams and is in position to tie Federer as the best of all time.

But with Federer and Nadal competing close to each other, the current world number one Djokovic is right behind them with 17 titles. Given that the Serbian star is the youngest among the three indicates that he has the best chance to wrap everything up on top.

No matter how dominant the three have been, there is still some glimmer of optimism for the future stars of the sport. As what the former US Champion Cilic shared, the younger stars in tennis are slowly adding to the depth of the tour’s roster.

"The health of tennis has grown a lot in the last 12-18 months. This mix of the younger generation, they're maturing much more," Cilic shared by way of Yahoo Sports.

Federer, Nadal and Djokovic may occupy the top but players such as Dominic Thiem, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev have constantly made their presence felt in the sport.

"I believe the health of the tennis tour is extremely strong at the moment. I believe competition has come back to the situation we were in, around 2008-2010, where we had so many great, great names in our sport," Cilic continued.

It will be interesting to monitor when the next set of stars will breakthrough and finally take one Grand Slam away from the sport’s top trio.
