Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Dies Of Non-COVID-19 Lung Issue
KEY POINTS
- Former WWE heel Jon Huber, also known as Brodie Lee, died Saturday after a battle with a lung issue
- Huber was well-loved inside and outside the WWE ring
- Huber was best known as one-third of the Wyatt Family in the WWE
Jon Huber may not ring a bell to most wrestling fans, but he is a familiar face in the WWE and AEW. Best known for his heel roles, the man also known as Luke Harper and Brodie Lee sadly passed away Saturday due to a non-COVID-19-related lung issue, his family announced. He was 41.
"My heart is broken," Huber's wife Amanda said in a statement. "He was my best friend, my husband, and the greatest father you would ever meet."
Huber got noticed when he formed one-third of the defunct faction Wyatt Family. He teamed up with Bray Wyatt (The Fiend) and Erick Rowan before the trio broke up in 2014.
Before leaving the WWE earlier this year and joining AEW, Huber got the chance to be the WWE Intercontinental Champion when he defeated Dolph Ziggler. However, it was a short-lived reign with “The Showoff” recapturing the belt shortly after.
Huber took his act to the AEW and got rewarded by winning the AEW TNT Championship. He lost it in a match in October, likely because he knew of his lung issue. He took a leave of absence from the promotion and never returned as he battled the condition, which was undisclosed at the time of his departure.
"He passed surrounded by love ones after a hard fought battle with a non Covid related lung issue. The [Mayo Clinic in Florida] is literally the best team of doctors and nurses in the world who surrounded me with constant love," an official statement read.
Huber and Amanda got married in 2008 and share two kids. Huber’s wife is left devastated by his death, saying she lost not only a husband but also a best friend.
"The world saw him as the amazing [Brodie Lee] (formally known as Luke Harper) but he was my best friend, my husband, and the greatest father you would ever meet," she stated.
WWE stars Triple H and Matt Hardy concurred, aware of who Huber was outside the wrestling ring. Cody Rhodes called him a first-class human being.
"Amazing talent ... Better human being, husband and father," Triple H said.
"I'm shattered over Brodie’s passing. He was full of life with a wife & young children he loved. A devastating reminder of how fragile life is. Rest well, friend," Hardy wrote.
