Fourth Member Of Edge's Faction Rumored To Be Ex-Universal Champion
KEY POINTS
- Finn Balor is expected to join Edge's "Judgment Day" faction
- Balor helped out AJ Styles in his efforts to go up against Edge and the new group
- This would give the former Universal Champion something new to work within WWE
Edge has fully embraced the role of being a top-tier heel with his new faction “Judgment Day,” and a new report suggests that they will be welcoming a fourth member to the squad in the form of former WWE Univeral and NXT Champion Finn Balor.
Pro wrestling personality Brad Shepard broke the news on the latest episode of his Patreon-funded podcast Unleashed.
“The current creative plan calls for Finn Balor to turn on AJ Styles and join Edge’s Judgement Day faction. I do not know when that is planned to happen,” he reported.
Balor being brought into the faction is going to be a great move for him as his character has greatly floundered on the main roster despite enjoying a short resurgence on NXT for most of 2019 to 2021.
Edge’s stable all started when Damian Priest inserted himself into the former’s match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 38 Night 2.
A few weeks later at the WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view rematch between Edge and Styles, Rhea Ripley was added to the mix by interfering with the match and costed Styles the victory.
As Styles was set to be attacked by Priest and Edge on the May 2 episode of Raw, Balor rushed his way to the ring and fended off both attackers.
The connection between the two New Japan Pro Wrestling stars was on full display as they shared a “Too Sweet” gesture, not-so-subtly acknowledging the history of both performers and the gesture itself.
Balor turning on Styles would be the ideal way to show to WWE’s upper management and its fans that there still is a lot left in the tank for a performer who is close to turning 41.
His appeal with the fans has never waned, and joining the faction has nothing but upside for the former Universal Champion.
With the Judgment Day faction garnering praise from WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley, the group can do no wrong with regards to where they go next as it looks like Edge definitely has some creative control over who joins the team and its direction.
Kicking the group off with Priest and adding Ripley later, both superstars are in an amazing position to be in as they learn from one of the best talkers and in-ring performers that WWE has ever seen.
If Balor were to be thrown into the mix, there is no telling how far this faction can go together and even individually once it inevitably breaks apart.
