Fourth Stimulus Check Update: Californians To Receive New Payments On Halloween
KEY POINTS
- Residents who earned $0 to $75,000 for the 2020 tax year may receive the checks
- Residents hoping to receive the checks should also file their 2020 taxes by Oct. 15, 2021
- It is unclear how much the next round of payments would amount to
Residents in California may receive a new round of payments in their bank accounts on Halloween, according to the state’s Franchise Tax Board.
The California Franchise Tax Board announced plans to release the fourth batch of Golden State Stimulus payments as direct deposits and paper checks on Oct. 31. However, it is unclear how much the checks will amount to.
It is estimated that more than 9 million residents in California qualify for the Golden State Stimulus payments.
Under the program, residents who have wages of $0 to $75,000 for the 2020 tax year and have been living in the state for more than half of the 2020 tax year may receive the checks. Residents hoping to receive the checks should also file their 2020 taxes by Oct. 15, 2021.
People who qualified for the Golden State Stimulus I initiative and claimed credit for one or more dependents may receive up to $500. Those who did not qualify for GSS 1 and did not claim credit for dependents may receive up to $600.
Californians who did not qualify for GSS 1 but claimed credit for one or more dependents may receive up to $1,100.
People who qualified for GSS 1 and did not claim credit for one or more dependents, do not qualify for the second stimulus payment.
People with ITIN who qualified for GSS 1 and claimed credit for one or more dependents may receive up to $1,000.
The new checks come as calls for a fourth round of stimulus payments continue to grow. A petition posted on Change.org urging Congress to send $2,000 monthly payments to adult Americans and $1,000 payments to children throughout the COVID-19 pandemic earned 2,925,432 signatures as of Tuesday.
“I’m calling on Congress to support families with a $2,000 payment for adults and a $1,000 payment for kids immediately, and continuing regular checks for the duration of the crisis. Otherwise, laid-off workers, furloughed workers, the self-employed, and workers dealing with reduced hours will struggle to pay their rent or put food on the table,” Stephanie Bonin, the petition’s author, wrote.
The petition is less than 75,000 signatures away from achieving its three million goal, which would make it one of the top signed petitions on the platform.
Lawmakers in Congress have yet to indicate plans to send out another round of payments.
