Fox’s ‘O.J. Simpson: The Lost Confession’ Pitted Against ABC’s ‘American Idol’ Reboot
Fox just revealed that its new show, “The Lost Confession,” will be pitted against the network’s former reality TV competition, “American Idol.”
ABC is the new home of the “American Idol” reboot, and the show will air at the exact same time. According to Entertainment Tonight, “O.J. Simpson: The Lost Confession” will be hosted by Soledad O’Brien, and it will feature no-holds-barred conversations with Simpson himself.
Fox described the special as a show that will offer detailed and disturbing description of the events that took place on June 12, 1994. The network also claimed that the interview tapes of Simpson have been lost for the past decade, and it was only recently found.
The two-hour Simpson special will also feature public service announcements on domestic violence awareness, among many other things. “O.J. Simpson: The Lost Confession” will premiere on March 11 at 8 p.m. EST. “American Idol” reboot will also have a two-hour premiere on the same date and time on ABC.
Auditions for “American Idol” reboot began in August of last year. The network previously announced that Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, are the new judges for the first season. Ryan Seacrest will continue to host the reboot, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The original “American Idol” aired on Fox from 2002 to 2015. Some of the singers who were products of the reality TV competition are Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, Jordin Sparks, Katharine McPhee, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia Barrino, Ruben Studdard, Scotty McCreery, and more.
After the reboot was confirmed to air on ABC, original judge Simon Cowell opened up about “American Idol” and said that he will never return to the show.
“You can’t go back! We had the best times when we did it. You can’t recreate what we had before, you know, it was me and it was Paula and Randy and Ryan and it was an amazing chemistry there. When I hear about all this talk about casting judges, I have to be honest with you, I think this is where they have it wrong. It doesn’t matter about the judges, it is about the contestants,” he told Extra TV.
