Francisco Rodriguez, 17, Gunned Down Outside Home in LA
Francisco Rodriguez, a 17-year-old teenager from Los Angeles and a student of El Camino Real High, was gunned down near his home Wednesday night. He was pronounced dead at the Northridge Hospital.
The shooting is as mysterious as it is shocking; so far, the police, the community and Rodriguez' family have very little clue of why he was killed.
According to Los Angeles Daily News, this is what went down: a girl with red hair knocked on the door, Rodriguez answered the knock with a worried look (according to his sister), briefly spoke to the girl, went outside to the front yard without his shoes on and was gunned down there.
He was then found lying face down on the grass.
While the Rodriguez did not have a girlfriend, his neighbor claimed that the redhead was seen with him a few months ago, according to KTLA.
The LAPD had this much to say about the shooting: it was not random but one that was targeted towards Rodriguez.
The police, however, do not have a motive for the shooting, according to Los Angeles Daily News. Rodriguez' family said he was not involved in gangs.
He was described by one classmate as just a great kid, according to KTLA.
It doesn't make sense. No one really disliked [Rodriguez]. It was impossible, said another classmate.
Rodriguez was a goal keeper with the EL Camino Real High School varsity soccer. The team's coach said upon learning the news of Rodriguez' death, he had a real empty feeling right now. It's like a bottomless pit, reported Los Angeles Daily News.
On Thursday night, a very emotional vigil, attended by about 100 people, was held for Rodriguez outside his home, according to KTLA.
