Grammy Award-winning R&B artist Frank Ocean’s teen brother and another person were reportedly killed in a car crash in Thousand Oaks, California, on Sunday, Aug. 2.

The Tesla car they were in left the roadway and crashed into a tree around 1.30 a.m. local time (4.30 a.m. EDT). The vehicle was engulfed in flames. Officials with the Ventura County Fire Department pronounced both the occupants dead at the scene.

"On August 2, 2020, at about 01:33 am, the Thousand Oaks Police Department and the Ventura County Fire Department responded to a single vehicle traffic collision on Westlake Boulevard just north of Skelton Canyon Circle. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the vehicle engulfed in flames. The two occupants of the vehicle were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ventura County Fire Department," Ventura County Sheriff’s Officer said in a press release.

"The initial investigation revealed the vehicle was traveling south on Westlake Boulevard approaching Skelton Canyon Circle. The vehicle appeared to leave the roadway and collide with a tree in the center median," the officer added.

Local daily Thousand Oaks Acron reported that the two men killed in the crash were Ocean’s younger brother, 18-year-old Ryan Breaux, and the teen’s former classmate, 20-year-old Ezekiel Bishop. They were members of the Oaks Christian High School Class of 2019.

Bishop, who was an athlete, lost his father in a car crash five years back. Speaking to the newspaper in 2017 after his football team’s victory in a championship, Bishop said, "I did it for my dad. I played my heart out. I know he was here the whole time."

Though the cause of the crash was under investigation, Ventura County sheriff’s Deputy Wendell Campbell told KTLA that speed could have been a possible factor.

"The speed limit is north of 45 mph. It’s a nice big stretch of road, so sometimes people do pick up speed," Campbell told the channel.

Anyone who might have witnessed the deadly crash was requested to contact senior deputy Dan Ambarian at (805) 494-8245.
