A man is gravely injured after a freak elevator accident in Santigo, Chile.
Jose Vergara Acevedo entered the elevator last Thursday on the first floor then shot up at nearly 50 MPH, with the doors still open. The surveillance video clearly shows Acevedo frantically slamming on the buttons until the elevator slammed into the ceiling. According to the user who uploaded the video to Reddit, Acevedo is in stable condition but may never walk again due to spinal injures.
Officials are still investigating exactly what caused the elevator's malfunction.
