Melania Trump has seemingly been reluctant to take on her new role as first lady of the United States, and daytime talk show hosts have certainly taken note. Comedian Joy Behar took her critiques of the first family to a new level during Tuesday's show, accusing the Trumps of faking their marriage and purporting the president is holding the first lady captive.

Behar, who hosts "The View" with several other female comedians and actresses, spent some of the airtime contrasting the Trumps’ relationship to that of former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama.

"Compare them to the Obamas who looked like they loved each other. I don’t believe these two. I don’t buy it," the show's host said Tuesday. The audience responded with applause, as well as shouts from several guests saying "free Melania!"

The comedian then continued jabbing at the president and his wife, saying Trump "got her as, like, a hostage up in this Trump Tower."

"She’s like Rapunzel," Behar continued. "Let down your hair, Melania!"

The comedian's seemingly unscripted interaction with the audience made national headlines, following similar comments from radio host Dan Savage earlier this week who said he rejects Melania Trump as the new first lady.

"God knows there’s enough hate in the world and I don’t want to add to the sum total, but forgive me, I have got to get this off my chest: I fucking hate Melania Trump," Savage said during his podcast, "Savage Lovecast." "Melania Trump is as ugly on the inside as she is pretty on the outside."

Meanwhile, the first lady has slowly began immersing herself into the political limelight, hosting a party at the White House for International Women’s Day and a dinner with 46 governors across the U.S. She's remained living in her $100 million Trump Towers penthouse with her 10-year-old son Barron Trump instead of moving to Washington, D.C., however, as the first son continues receiving his education in New York City during the president’s first 100 days.
