World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is through to the semi-finals of the French Open after a four-set win against Pablo Carreno Busta.
"I definitely didn't feel great coming into the court today. A few things happened in the warm-up," Djokovic said, ESPN reported.
It was a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 victory for the former French Open winner, and he is now looking forward to his next match against Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Serbian star is still battling neck and shoulder issues, but he’s confident he can still play at a high level.
"I had some neck issues and some shoulder issues. I'll just say that. I mean, I don't want to get really too much into it. Obviously, I'm still in the tournament, so I don't want to reveal too much. I'm feeling OK," Djokovic shared.
"As the match progressed, I warmed up my body, and the pain kind of faded away. It allowed me to play better and better and feel better," he continued.
Carreno Busta defeated Djokovic in their previous encounter in the latest U.S. Open care of an unusual sequence of events. The 17-time Grand Slam champion was defaulted for inadvertently hitting a line judge in the throat with a ball.
There were no controversial endings in their recent matchup as Djokovic pointed out that he was over his latest loss. He added that he eventually found his groove on the court despite dropping the first set.
"It took me about set and a half to really get comfortable and start really playing the way I should," Djokovic said.
"Match turned around quickly," he concluded.
It will be a hard-hitting duel in the semi-finals as Djokovic is set to face Tsitsipas. The latter recently made history as the first Greek player to reach the Roland Garros semi-finals.
"I'm chasing something spectacular," the 22-year-old Tsitsipas told reporters at Roland Garros.
Only four players remain in the French Open. Twelve-time champion Rafael Nadal will face Argentine Diego Schwartzman on the other side of the bracket.
