Disney fans in the UK and Ireland are in for a surprise as the production company announced that “Frozen 2” will be available for streaming on Disney+ starting on July 3.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the studio announced that the film will be streaming two weeks ahead of its original release date. The highest-grossing animated film of all time features the voices of Idina Menzel and Josh Gad.
The movie chronicles the journey of Anna (Kristen Bell) and Elsa (Menzel), who are joined by Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), Olaf (Gad), and Sven as they embark on a quest to discover the cause of Elsa's magical powers and save the kingdom of Arendelle.
"Frozen 2" turned out to be a massive success for Disney as it went on to become the number one animated film of all time. It accumulated more than $1.45 billion globally and edged out the first film in the series, “Frozen,” that came out in 2013.
The original film earned $1.29 billion at the worldwide box office.
With “The Incredibles 2” on the number 3 spot with a total of $1.24 billion at the box office, Disney owns all three of the top-grossing animated films of all time.
“Frozen 2” was nominated for a plethora of awards. However, the movie was snubbed at the Academy Awards because it was not nominated in the Best Animated Film category. The animated feature film also garnered nominations at the Critics’ Choice Awards, Golden Globes, and BAFTAs.
Disney also surpassed the billion-dollar mark with movies like “Avengers: Endgame,” “Captain Marvel,” “Toy Story 4,” and “The Lion King.”
“Endgame” is the highest-grossing movie of all time with total earnings of $2.79 billion.
In related news, Gad recently revealed that there are no plans for another movie at this time.
“I do not know. I mean, here's the deal. ‘Frozen 2’ was not ‘Frozen 2’ until there was a reason to exist. And similarly, I do not know if and when there will be a ‘Frozen 3.’ But we will see! If there is always a story worth telling, I am sure that Jennifer Lee and the incredible team over at Disney animation will tell that story one day," Gad said.
