Full Figured Fashion Week kicks off in New York [pictures]
The third annual Full Figured Fashion Week, hosted by Shanda Freeman, will take place in New York City on June 16. This event is so popular that tickets for the events have already been sold out. Gwen Devoe of DeVoe Signature Events, the organizer of this fabulous event, expects over 1,000 people to attend the finale of Full Figured Fashion Week. Plus -size women feel it is definitely worth the $10 addmission for sample sales and/or $75 to attend trunk shows and the shopping crawl to full-figured stores in New York. However some of the events are invite only.
Let's face it, the mainstream fashion world mostly ignores the needs and styles of woman of certain sizes; and by certain sizes I mean sizes over 12. That is what Full Figured Fashion Week is all about; showing the fashion world that just because a woman has curves does not mean she cannot own good quality, designer clothing at great prices.
Most plus size women either have to pay extra for trendy clothing in their size or just settle for just plain ugly clothes that do not even flatter their figure. Full Figured Fashion Week features sexy swim suits, curve-hugging skirts, cocktail dresses, shoes, tops and high-end evening wear that make any plus- size woman feel like a goddess, which is how every woman should feel in their clothing. Designer brands such as Lane Bryant, Plush and Vikki Vi will showcase colorful and trendy clothing for women sizes 12 to 30. By joining the shopping crawl, women will actually be shown clothing stores perfect for plus-size women they did not even know existed.
I hope these women realize that they can feel beautiful and that there is clothing out there that can make women feel confident, California based designer Jill Alexander tells NY Daily News. It's really true that putting on the right outfit can help you be your best self.
Full Figured Fashion Week has most definitely become a legitimate competitor in the war of the fashion weeks after its undeniable success over the past years.
