Galaxy S2 to Get ICS Update on March 10: A Threat to iPhone 4S?
Samsung won the award for the Best Manufacturer of the Year and Samsung Galaxy S2 was recognized as the Best Smartphone at the Mobile World Congress 2012. According to CNET, Samsung notched incredible sales of twenty million units of Galaxy S2 smartphones. Galaxy S2 is the world's thinnest smartphone that delivers superb performance. And it's going to get even better as it will get a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) OS on March 10.
Galaxy S2 boasts of 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, which is enhanced with a better battery and a slim design. Currently the smartphone runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system.
The Smartphone runs on dual core processor, which offers multitasking performance, high speed browsing and superior gaming experience. On the other hand, iPhone 4S runs on the iOS 5, which provides a quick response while browsing the Internet or playing games. Probably Galaxy S2 could boost up its performance by getting an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which can be a threat to iPhone 4S that runs an iOS 5.
Samsung Philippines site has announced that Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 upgrade will be available for the Galaxy S2 users on March 10.To upgrade the Galaxy S2 to Android ICS 4.0, the user must first upgrade KIES to its latest version since KIES 1.5 will not be supported. The user can also choose FOTA to upgrade the Galaxy S2. Samsung recommends the device must enable high performance Wi-Fi connectivity as the user will have to download a large firmware file to upgrade to ICS.
The best features provided by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich are Face Unlock and Android Beam. It will also show the mobile network data usage. It enhances the multitasking feature and the apps. The ICS 4.0 will not support Adobe Flash and Bluetooth 3.0 HS. It is recommended to back-up the data through KIES before upgrading to ICS 4.0. The user must ensure to have enough memory in the device to upgrade to ICS 4.0. To upgrade through KIES the device must have at least 60 MB in the internal memory. If the user will upgrade through FOTA then the internal memory should have at least 350 MB. Undeniably, the ICS 4.0 upgrade will juice up Samsung Galaxy S2's existing, amazing features.
