Galentine’s Day 2017: 16 TV Besties With Friendships Worth Celebrating
Before celebrating romance on Valentine’s Day, it’s time to celebrate women supporting women. Galentine’s Day is a holiday created by “Parks and Recreation” that has made the jump from the small screen to real life. On Feb. 13, ladies can take the opportunity to ditch their significant others and hang out with their gal pals on Galentine’s Day. These TV duos should definitely be celebrating the holiday (even though some are far too cool to celebrate made up holidays).
Kara and Alex Danvers from “Supergirl” — Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Alex (Chyler Leigh) aren’t just super; they’re also sisters. The Danvers girls always have each other’s backs. Often, that means covering each other in a fight against aliens, but this season their relationship has grown even stronger when Kara supported Alex’s coming out.

Flaca and Maritza from “Orange is the New Black” — The prisoners have become sisters during their incarceration. The Netflix dramedy can take seriously some dark turns, but Flaca (Jackie Cruz) and Maritza (Diane Guerrero) always provide comic relief.
Jemma Simmons and Daisy Johnson from “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” — These government agents couldn’t be more different. Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) likes rules and structure, and Daisy (Chloe Bennet) prefers to disregard all authority figures that aren’t Coulson (Clark Gregg). Still, the women find plenty of common ground on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” even if their friendship doesn’t get nearly enough screen time.
DJ and Kimmy from “Fuller House” — This is another lifelong friendship to admire. DJ (Candace Cameron Bure) and Kimmy (Andrea Barber) have been friends for decades, and they’ve managed to overcome their differences and always stay close. We still love watching their antics all these years later, and we love seeing their off screen friendship too!
Fiona and V from “Shameless” — These ladies were put to the test when Fiona (Emmy Rossum) became more independent, and V (Shanola Hampton) got involved with a con artist. Still, they managed to come back together before the end of last season, proving that no one can destroy their lifelong friendship.
Grace and Frankie from “Grace and Frankie” — These two aren’t always on the same page, and they might not even like admitting that they’re so close. However, Grace (Jane Fonda) and Frankie (Lily Tomlin) are one of the few examples on TV that show you always need a best friend, no matter how many years of wisdom you have.
Jessica Jones and Trish Walker from “Jessica Jones” — The Marvel ladies are the definition of “ride or die besties” (though Jessica would never, ever use that term). Despite drowning in her misery, Jessica (Krysten Ritter) is always willing to save her best friend and foster sister Trish (Rachael Taylor). While some might run and hide when their friend is the obsession of a mind-controlling murderer, Trish is too loyal to ever abandon Jessica. We’re so glad the Netflix drama added this friendship, even if it wasn’t in the comics.
Leslie Knope and Ann Perkins — This is a Galentine’s Day list. We can’t forget the Galentine’s founder Leslie (Amy Poehler) and her best friend Ann (Rashida Jones). We can only hope to have a friendship of our own with all of that optimism and mutual respect.
