Game Awards 2016 News, Trailers And Winners
The Game Awards 2016 featured a lot of new trailers, and some pretty big news. Here’s a roundup of all the news, winners and trailers from the Game Awards 2016.
Telltale’s The Walking Dead Season 3 Will Feature Two-Part Premiere
Telltale announced Season 3 of The Walking Dead will kick off with a two-part premiere. At the Game Awards, the studio said the first episode was way too long for a single episode so both parts will launch on Dec. 20.
A new trailer for the episode, titled The Ties That Bind, was shown at the Game Awards. It featured a family dealing with their grandfather turning into a zombie. The Walking Dead Season 3 casts players as new character Javier; Clementine, who has been in the series from the beginning, also makes an appearance in the trailer.
Halo Wars 1 Remaster Will Launch This Month
At the Game Awards 2016, 343 Industries Dan Ayoub announced that the Halo Wars 1 Definite Edition will launch later this month for some. People who preorder Halo Wars 2’s Ultimate edition will receive early access to the first game’s Definitive edition, starting Dec. 20. A new trailer for Halo Wars 2 was also released, and focused on the new bad guy Atriox. Halo Wars 2 comes out in February 2017 for Xbox One and PC. Halo Wars 2 beta will be held before launch.
Shovel Knight Prequel Announced
During the Game Awards, Yacht Club Games announced a new Shovel Knight game, Specter of Torment. It’s a prequel to the 2014 original. Specter of Torment is a 2D side-scroller. Shovel Knight was originally funded on Kickstarter, raising $310,000 in 2013. Shovel Knight was one of the most acclaimed games of 2014, and is available on consoles and PC.
Phoenix Labs Announced Their First Game, Dauntless
At the Game Awards, independent studio Phoenix Labs, which was founded by a team of BioWare and Blizzard developers, announced their first game, Dauntless. A PC online co-op RPG, Dauntless is set in a “untamed fantasy world.” You’ll be able to play as a Slayer, fighting against Behemoths.
Prey 2 Trailer Shows Creepy Enemies
A new trailer for Prey was shown off at the Game Awards 2016. The trailer offers a look at gameplay from its upcoming sci-fi game. Most of the action takes place on Talos, a space station that players get to explore throughout the game. Enemies come in all shapes and sizes, from spiders to huge monsters. Weapons include a shotgun and a gravity grenade, which sucks in objects surrounding the impact zone. Prey is due out for PS4, Xbox One and PC in 2017.
Death Stranding Trailer Features Hannibal Actor Mads Mikkelsen
A new trailer for Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding was shown at the Game Awards. The trailer showed the film director Guillermo Del Toro carrying a baby in an incubation chamber while trying to hide from the military. The trailer showed another baby drifting in a stream of water. Soldiers emerge with liquid coming from their eyes. The leader of the unit is Mads Mikkelsen, star of Hannibal.
New Mass Effect: Andromeda Gameplay Footage Premieres
BioWare premiered a new gameplay trailer for Mass Effect: Andromeda at the Game Awards 2016. The trailer shows off Andromeda’s new gear and special powers, and shows off a ton of combat. We also get to see a look at the Nomad ship. BioWare says in the video that, even though you’ll start off with a ship and the Nomad, you’ll need to steal items to bolster your roster.
Guardians of the Galaxy Game Coming
Telltale Games announced it's working on a game based on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. That’s not a huge surprise, since Telltale announced in 2015 it was making a Marvel game.
Rocket League’s Next DLC Arena Announced
Psyonix announced Rocket League’s next arena during the Game Awards 2016. Titled Starbase Arc, the map will arrive on Dec. 7 on all platforms and will be free. As the title suggest, Starbase Arc is set in outer space on some space station. A trailer for the map was shown off during the Game Awards.
