'Game Of Thrones' Season 5: 4 Ways To Prepare For The April 12 Premiere
As any true “Game of Thrones” fan will know, liking this show is a year-round endeavor. Although the series won’t be making its triumphant return until April 12, HBO hasn’t been shy about treating viewers to Season 5 trailers, viral campaigns and merchandise.
To properly prepare for the return of “Game of Thrones” below is a list of everything the devoted fan can do before we return to Westeros:
1. The three-eyed raven
In November, HBO announced the creation of a new Season 5 website and social media campaign in which the show’s iconic three-eyed raven will give fans “visions” from the show’s past, present and future. Those interested in receiving "The Sight" simply need to visit the website and sign up to get visions via text message or Twitter. So far three ominous sneak peeks (or “visions” if you really want to play along) have gone up. They don’t reveal too much about the upcoming season but they do tease a little bit about what’s in store for some fan-favorite characters like Arya Stark. Pay attention if you sign up, each person can only view the three teasers once, according to The Huffington Post.
2. Watch it in IMAX
“Game of Thrones” has been such a cultural phenomenon, it only makes sense for it to also have a historical record under its belt. It was announced earlier this month the final two episodes of Season 4 will be the first television show to make its way to the big, big screen. IMAX partnered with HBO and will be running the two episodes, which include the powerful battle on the Wall, along with the first full-size trailer for Season 5 starting on Jan. 29. "Game of Thrones" will be in more than 200 theaters across the U.S.
3. A Special Event
If “Game of Thrones” is the best hour of television then its behind-the-scenes special might make for a pretty good half-hour of television. HBO confirmed it will be airing a special episode Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. EST. The show will look at the production for “Game of Thrones” and will cover what it’s like to shoot the show on location. Fans will get to see the show being made in Belfast; Dubrovnik, Croatia, and Seville and Osuna, Spain. Although nothing has been confirmed, viewers can likely expect to be treated to a few teasers for Season 5 during the special.
4. Grab A Beer
In partnership with Ommegang brewery, HBO has been pushing out beers with a “Game of Thrones” theme for years. Each season comes with its own unique flavor including “Iron Throne,” “Take the Black Stout,” “Fire and Blood,” “Vala Morghulis” and the newest addition to the collection, “The Three Eyed Raven.” The Season 5 flavor is described as a Dark Saison ale that is “open to the brewer’s imagination.” It’s not quite a dark beer but not quite a full saison. Either way, it will make for the perfect drink (for those legally allowed) while sitting with your friends and watching the season premiere on April 12. Drink responsibly.
