'Game Of Thrones' Season 5 Spoilers: 5 Things We Learned From New Set Photos
Fans are less than a month away from the premiere of “Game of Thrones” Season 5 and sneak peeks into the new episodes are starting to drop. HBO just released a series of photos from the set of the new season on the show’s production blog and the pictures provide an exciting look into what is coming when the series returns.
Here are 5 things we learned from the new set photos of “Game of Thrones” Season 5:
1. Doran Martell Revealed
Although he has been mentioned before in the series, Doran Martell – the head of the Martell household in Dorne and the brother of Oberyn (Pedro Pascal) – has never appeared on the show. That will change in Season 5 when Dorne will become a mainstay location in the series. Like his brother, Doran has beef with the Lannisters and wants revenge for his sister Elia’s death. He is seen in the set photo played by “24" actor Alexander Siddig.
2. Areo Appears
Fans first got a sneak peek at Areo Hotah (Deobia Opaeri) – a new character this season – in a behind-the-scenes video profiling the weapons used on the show. However, this photo is the first glimpse of the character in action. In the picture, the Martell Guard captain seems to be having a pretty serious conversation with Ellaria Sand (Indira Varma). With the latest trailer revealing that Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) will be visiting Dorne, perhaps the two characters disagree on how to treat their Lannister guest after the death of Oberyn.
3. Tormund Is Free
Last we saw of Wildling warrior Tormund Giantsbane (Kristofer Hivju) he was being locked up by Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) after the Battle of Castle Black. Well, he does not appear to be a prisoner here, standing among other battle ready Wildlings. Has Jon Snow released him? Perhaps an alliance will be formed between Snow and the Wildlings with the arrival of Stannis' (Stephen Dillane) army.
4. Sibling Quarrels
A new photo of Cersei (Lena Headey) and Jamie Lannister shows the sibling couple looking a bit displeased with each other. Last fans saw the two were professing their love for each other again and vowing not to let anything keep them apart. Has the fact that Jaime helped Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) escape changed things? Jaime will be making a trip to Dorne in Season 5 – a.k.a. not staying in King’s Landing with his sister. Is the relationship strained?
5. Wedding Bells
Another photo shows the Boltons – Roose (Michael McElhatton) and Ramsay (Iwan Rheon) standing in what appears to be the remains of Wintefell. Standing by Ramsay’s side is Walda Fray (Elizabeth Webster). Readers of the “Song of Ice and Fire” book series know that Ramsay and Fray eventually marry. It looks like another wedding may be in store in Season 5.
