'Game Of Thrones' Season 5 Spoilers: Whose Relationship With Daenerys Is About To Get A Lot 'Closer'?
Friends are hard to come by in “Game of Thrones.” With all the murdering, backstabbing and lying going on, true friendship don’t come along very often. However, E! Online has the scoop on one friendship in the upcoming fifth season of the HBO series that might actually be built to last – Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and her right hand maid Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel).
E! caught up with Emmanuel at an HBO party following Sunday’s Golden Globes and the actress dished that her character and Daenerys will be getting even closer in Season 5.
“We see Daenerys being queen and what comes with that, so it's not always smooth sailing,” Emmanuel told E! Online, “but she's got her confidante and friend Missandei to help her along the way.”
Missandei has been a mainstay on the show since Season 3 when she was introduced as a translator when Daenerys arrived in Astapor to purchase her Unsullied army. Daenerys’ took Missandei as a gift when she bought the Unsullied and subsequently gave the servant her freedom. Through the last two seasons, Missandei’s importance has increased as her role as one of Daenerys’ confidantes has grown.
Fans of the “Song of Ice and Fire” book series know that this relationship will only get stronger as the series continues as Missandei often tells Daenerys stories about her own childhood and culture to help guide her queen. Season 4 also introduced some sexual tension between the character and the soldier Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson), and Missandei and Daenerys spoke candidly about it with each other.
What will Season 5 hold for Missandei and Daenerys? Fans will have to wait to find out. Season 5 of “Game of Thrones” is set to premiere on April 12. The trailer for the new season can be seen first during the IMAX theatrical release of the last two episodes of Season 4 on Jan. 23.
