'Game Of Thrones' Season 6 Production Update: Funeral Scene At Castle Black; Cersei's Revenge Plot May Involve Fire
Leaked production photos from “Game of Thrones” Season 6 show a funeral scene being filmed. The set is apparently for Castle Black and the scene may reveal the fate of a popular character on the show. [Spoiler Alert!]
Pictures from the set posted on Watchers on the Wall show the production crew working in Magheramorne, Northern Ireland. The set is supposedly of Castle Black and smoke can be seen in some pictures. The report suggests that since actors Owen Teale (Alliser Thorne) and Kit Harington (Jon Snow) have been spotted in nearby Belfast, a funeral scene may have been filmed at this location.
According to a report by Winter Is Coming, the location has been used throughout the series to film the ceremonial burning of the dead. The report notes that even though it was Jon Snow’s own subordinates who killed him, he was still the Lord Commander who had a loyal following in not only the Night’s Watch but also the Free Folk that he saved.
The report speculates that one compelling reason for members of the Night’s Watch to burn Snow's body is to ensure that he doesn’t come back as a member of the Army of the Dead.
Another character in the show who may be considering using fire for revenge is Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey). According to Winter Is Coming, the producers have stockpiled 20-gallon barrels of gasoline for a scene at the Red Keep. A fire truck was reportedly seen entering Titanic Studios as a safety precaution.
The report notes that Cersei is back at the Red Keep and is considering taking revenge for the humiliation that was meted out to her. The character has multiple enemies on the show, including High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce) and Kevan Lannister (Ian Gelder), so it is unclear who will be targeted by her.
The premiere episode of “Game of Thrones” Season 6 is slated to air in April. The report notes that Cersei may go mad next season. One factor that is speculated to push her in this direction is the death of her son Tommen (Dean-Charles Chapman).
