‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Emilia Clarke Stuns In Holiday Movie ‘Last Christmas’ Trailer
Las Vegas-- Emilia Clarke may be wrapping up her longtime role on HBO’s “Game of Thrones” but she already has another project in the works. On Wednesday, Universal Pictures unveiled its first look at the holiday movie “Last Christmas” during the studio’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas.
According to screenwriter and star Emma Thompson, she was asked several years ago to write a script based off of the holiday song “Last Christmas” but was initially not interested. She, of course, eventually changed her mind and has since teamed up with director Paul Feig to create the upcoming title, which features music from George Michael.
“I love Christmas movies,” Feig said. “I’ve spent my whole career trying to make one.”
While Clarke wasn’t present at the presentation on Wednesday alongside her co-star and on-screen love interest Henry Golding of “Crazy Rich Asians” -- Golding said she was busy “tending to her dragons”-- she did star in the film’s first trailer.
The footage begins with Clarke’s character Kate working at a year-round Christmas store in London called Yuletide. Sporting an elf costume, she doesn’t appear happy in her position, until she meets Golding’s character Tom outside of the establishment and he asks her out on a date.
Later on, she reveals to Tom that she wants to be a singer and quips that she has an aspiration to die at age 27, like Kurt Cobain. “I’m a mess,” she tells him. “I’m just scared all the time.”
“Being special is overrated,” he responds. “Just be you.”
The trailer ends with Kate appearing to turn her life around, thanks to the influence of Tom, and singing her own rendition of “Last Christmas.”
“Last Christmas” hits theaters just in time for the holidays on Nov. 15.
