‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Peter Vaughan Dead At 93; Fans Remember Maester Aemon Actor’s Legendary Roles

Now his watch has ended. British actor Peter Vaughan — known to younger fans for his role on the HBO original series “Game of Thrones” — has died.
After news broke early Tuesday morning, a number of fans took to Twitter to express their deep sadness. Many recalled his time on “Game of Thrones,” which began in 2010. On the show Vaughan played Maester Aemon, a member of the Targaryen family who fled to the Night’s Watch in his younger days. His character was killed off in Season 5. Prior to landing the role on the HBO series, Vaughn played Gouty on popular sitcom “Porridge.”
The Sun confirmed Vaughn’s passing with agent Sally Long-Innes. In a statement, she revealed to the publication that her client, who was 93, was at peace. Vaughan is said to have died at 10:30 a.m. GMT surrounded by family. It does not appear he had any health problems, aside from having been partially blind.
“This is to confirm that very sadly Peter Vaughan passed away at approximately 10:30 this morning,” Innes told the publication. “He died peacefully with his family around him.”
“Game of Thrones” cast members and showrunners have not yet shared any reactions to Vaughan’s death. Read fan reactions below.
