Gary Tinsley Dead At 22: Minnesota Linebacker Found Unresponsive
Gary Tinsley, a 22-year-old linebacker at the University of Minnesota, was found dead at his apartment on Friday.
University officials confirmed to the Associated Press that Tinsley was found unresponsive Friday morning at his apartment on campus. University representative Chuck Tombarge said he was pronounced dead at the scene about 8 a.m. local time and that there were no signs of foul play.
It's a very, very sad day for our football program and for our young men, Gophers head football coach Jerry Kill said Friday. What matters is Gary's family and our players. We have to take care of each other during difficult times.
Tinsley played 44 games at Minnesota and completed his eligibility this past season. With 87, he had the second-most tackles on the team in 2011.
This is a sad day for Gopher nation, quarterback Marqueis Gray said. We have to stick together through thick and thin. We were texting each other last night, and now he's gone. He was a great brother, teammate, friend.
