Gay Rom-Com 'My Fake Boyfriend' Trailer Shows Struggle Of Modern Dating [Watch]
"My Fake Boyfriend" trailer was dropped Thursday, featuring actor Keiynan Lonsdale, who plays a gay person struggling to find the right companion in his life.
In the two-minute, 24 seconds trailer shared on YouTube, Lonsdale, who plays a character named Andrew, can be seen in bed with his boyfriend, who leaves him at 2:00 a.m. in the morning to meet his trainer, suggesting that he is cheating on him.
Andrew tells his best friends named Jake and Kelly – played by actors Dylan Sprouse and Sarah Hyland, respectively – that he caught his boyfriend cheating on him with another man and broke up with him, but he still wants him back.
Jake and Kelly come up with a plan of making a fake profile on social media, portraying it as Andrew's new boyfriend to make his ex-boyfriend feel jealous. However, things go wild when the fake boyfriend's profile goes viral on the internet.
"My Fake Boyfriend" is slated to release on Amazon Prime Video on June 17.
Fans in the comments section shared their excitement for this rom-com.
"Looks interesting. Can't wait to see how the plot thickens," a fan commented, while another fan wrote, "Come on guys, we know that we have all done this before to get back at our ex boyfriends or ex girlfriends."
"I'm all for inclusivity and representation, but the plot seems all over the place," a user wrote. "The acting also seems cheesy, which is a shame because Keiynan is a talented actor. I hope the film ends up being better than the trailer."
The flick will also star Tricia Black, Bukola Ayoka, Matthew Finlan, Rong Fu, Ty Ippolito, Andrew Meikle, Matt Willis and Samer Salem. The movie is helmed by director Rose Troche and penned by writers Luke Albright, Greg Boaldin and Joe Wanjai Ross.
Lonsdale was last seen in the TV series "Eden," where he played Cam's character. Considering his next project, he will be featuring in a short movie, "M," which is under post-production.
Apart from "My Fake Boyfriend," viewers can also watch "The Lake" and The Summer I Turned Pretty" on June 17. Amazon Prime Video will also drop season 2 of the animated series "Fairfax" next month.
