CBS News host Gayle King and media mogul Oprah Winfrey have been best friends for over 40 years — and between the two, the latter is much wealthier. In fact, Winfrey is one of the richest self-made women in the country.

Winfrey, who is also an actress, was the renowned host of "The Oprah Winfrey Show," a talk show that spanned 25 years. She was able to transform this into a media and business empire that built her an estimated net worth of $2.6 billion, according to Forbes.

In 2021, Winfrey ranked 12th on Forbes' list of America's richest self-made women with a net worth of $2.7 billion at the time.

Meanwhile, King, an anchor on “CBS Mornings” who also previously worked as a correspondent for “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” has a net worth of $40 million as of 2022, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

King has been at CBS since 2011. Her first contract saw her rake in $5.5 million per year before she renegotiated in 2019 a bumper new contract that raised her yearly salary to $11 million, according to the outlet.

Just recently, Page Six reported that networks are gearing up for a bidding war over King, whose contract will end in May. But CBS will do everything it can to keep King, who just celebrated her 10th year at the network, the report said.

In a video posted on the Oprah Daily Instagram account, Winfrey and King revealed that the secret to their long-lasting friendship is the lack of envy toward each other and the genuine happiness they have for each other's achievements.

"Surround yourself with someone who is as happy for your happiness as you are for your happiness," Winfrey said, adding that King is happy for her when good things come her way.

"You need friends that are happy in their own lives so that they can actually be authentically happy for you," Winfrey further added.

King said the only time she ever wanted to do something that Winfrey was doing was dance and sing live on stage with Tina Turner.
