Microsoft Game Studios and Epic Games, Inc., said on Friday that the Xbox 360-exclusive title, Gears of War, has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide since its release six weeks ago.

The companies said the title is the fastest selling next-generation game of the year, and the fastest selling exclusive for the Xbox platform ever. The game sold 1 million copies in the U.S. alone.

We've always held high hopes for '˜Gears of War,' but we never expected such an overwhelmingly positive response from critics and gamers all over the world, said Michael Capps, president of Epic Games.

Data from research firm NPD indicates that the game was the best selling title during the month of November. Total sales reached $61.5 million.
