GGG’s trainer has figured out how his fighter could possibly beat Derevyanchenko.

A month before the highly anticipated middleweight bout between Gennady Golovkin and Sergiy Derevyanchenko, Golovkin’s trainer, Jonathan Banks, has figured out a way to stop his fighter’s opponent.

In a media scrum with Cornerman Boxing, Banks detailed how Golovkin should fight Derevyanchenko. According to Banks, “GGG” needs to change his style. Banks noted that his goal for Golovkin does not end with just making him a better fighter but also to make him improve his punches, Boxing News 24 reported.

“It is all about development. My goal for GGG is not only be a better fighter, but also a fighter with a better volume of punches,” Banks said.

Based on Banks’ evaluation, Golovkin needs to throw more punches. Banks is convinced that Golovkin’s power is still there and it will all depend on how is he going to utilize it during the bout.

“Letting his hands go instead of just looking for one punch. It’s not good. He’s always going to have that power, but to me it’s about how you use it. Do you look for one punch or do you let your hands go, and let the chips fall where they lay,” Banks pointed out.

However, making certain changes in Golovkin’s style seems a bit impossible at this point in his career. Given GGG’s age and familiarity with the tactful and patient style of fighting, Banks may really have a hardtime making the Kazakh fighter’s hands more active against Derevyachenko.

Last month, Derevyanchenko’s trainer Andre Rozier stated that he too, is convinced that Golovkin still has the power in his hands. In fact, Rozier even compared Golovkin to Manny Pacquiao and said that Golovkin is still as dangerous as Pacquiao even though they are both considered ageing fighters.

“It’s possible. Age catches up to everyone. He’s 37, but to me, he’s as dangerous as ever and if he lands a shot, it’s very dangerous. Pacquiao’s fighting at 40 and winning fights,” Rozier stated.

Should Golovkin managed to seure a win against Derevyanchenko, he is “100 percent” sure that he will fight Ryota Murata of Japan.

“One-hundred percent. Absolutely, I am open for this. And of course, we already made a first step with a world championship fight [with Derevyanchenko]. And absolutely, I’m looking forward [to fighting Murata],” Golovkin said.

The Derevyanchenko fight is a must win for Golovkin as many believe that a win against Derevyanchenko will help him earn a trilogy fight against Saul Canelo Alvarez. However, Golovkin was vocal about not being interested in fighting Canelo again.

"I really don't think about this subject (Canelo) at all. Let's talk about space or something else. I really know more about satellites and space than about Canelo," Golovkin claimed.
