'Genshin Impact' Guide: How To Deal More Damage With Any Team
KEY POINTS
- Enemies have unique damage resistance values in “Genshin Impact”
- Characters often have little tricks or ability rotations that grant more damage
- Jump cancels, dash cancels and dragon striking can help improve DPS
Dealing as much damage in “Genshin Impact” requires more than just getting those highly-coveted five-star or S-tier characters. Players have proven time and again that even the game’s hardest content can be cleared with just the starting units that they are given at the beginning of the game.
The secret to achieving high DPS outputs is having knowledge of how damage works in the first place. This means knowing ideal rotations, elemental reactions, item synergies and more. Having higher-tiered characters will make some of these concepts easier, but they are ultimately not required.
Here are a few tips on how to deal more damage in “Genshin Impact” regardless of team composition.
Enemy Damage Resistances
Different enemies have varying damage resistance values. The game does not inform players of these resistance values, but Reddit user u/rdfffgth was able to test and accurately determine how strong each enemy’s resistance to certain damage types is.
Most enemies have a base RES value of 10% against Physical and Elemental damage types. Those who have elemental affinities like Electro Cicin Mages will have a higher resistance to the same element that they are attuned with.
A good rule of thumb is to always bring a team that can counter enemy resistances. Try not to bring a Physical carry against Ruin Guards or Ruin Hunters.
Learn Your Characters
While some characters can get away with mindless button-spamming, it’s always better to learn even the smallest details of how to play a unit to maximize their potential.
For example, Eula can be used as a normal Physical carry that spams normal attacks, but timing her Elemental Skill usage with her Burst can result in insanely high damage numbers, which can be made even higher with proper elemental reactions.
Using and abusing small details in every character’s kit can lead to some surprising results. Try to dig into how certain characters can be played to find some secrets in their skills.
Animation Canceling and Dragon Strike
Characters with strong Charged Attacks like Hu Tao can greatly benefit from animation canceling. Players can either jump or dash while in the middle of Hu Tao’s Charged Attack to cancel the animation and prevent her from dashing through. This technique is applicable to other characters like Xiangling and Zhongli.
The community-named “Dragon Strike” move is a similar technique that lets players weave Plunge Attacks in their normal combos. This can be done by sprinting them jumping toward an enemy while mid-combo then attacking again once enough height is acquired.
It can be difficult to pull off, but it’s a strong technique that can greatly increase DPS when used correctly.
