George H.W. Bush gets aircraft carrier named after him
President George W. Bush in his last week of office is paying tribute to another president Bush, his father, by naming a new aircraft carrier under his father.
The president and former president both spoke at the commissioning of the USS George H.W. Bush in Norfolk, Virginia. The $6.2 billion nuclear-powered aircraft carrier will be among the largest warships in the world.
Other recent commissions include the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier in 2001, and the USS Jimmy Carter submarine in 2004. A new generation super carrier named for Gerald R. Ford is now in the works.
