UPDATE 3:04 p.m. EDT: The Associated Press has more details about the incident. Zimmerman allegedly threatened his wife and her father. AP tweeted:
George Zimmerman is in police custody following an incident involving a gun and another person in Central Florida, WKMG reported Monday afternoon.
Details of the incident are sketchy, but police were called to a home in Lake Mary, Fla., Monday afternoon after authorities received calls about Zimmerman being involved in an altercation with another person, the TV station reported.
The incident at the home comes after Zimmerman’s wife filed for divorce. Shellie Zimmerman was facing perjury charges relating to the moving of finances shortly before Zimmerman’s trial.
Zimmerman was the defendant in the high-profile case of the shooting death of unarmed teen Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Fla., in February 2012, which sparked a national debate about racial profiling. Zimmerman was acquitted of murder at his trial in July.
But Zimmerman has had run-ins with the law since his acquittal, including two citations for speeding.
