George Zimmerman Trial: Trayvon Martin's Shooter Makes First Court Appearance [SLIDESHOW]
George Zimmerman has been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of teenager Trayvon Martin, making his first court appearance April 12 at the Seminole County Correctional Facility in Sanford, Fla., where he is being currently being held.
Zimmerman's arrest and charges came on April 11, 45 days after the incident occurred in which he claims he shot Martin, 17, in self-defense while patrolling a gated community in the Sanford as a neighborhood watch volunteer. Martin was unarmed and staying with his father and his father's girlfriend at her house in the neighborhood.
Zimmerman, 28, appeared before Judge Mark Herr for his first hearing. A formal arraignment was set for May 29, where Zimmerman is expected to enter a not guilty plea.
