George Zimmerman's Wife Arrested For Lying Under Oath
Shellie Zimmerman was arrested for one count of perjury on Tuesday, after which she was promptly jailed in the same Florida facility as her husband, George Zimmerman.
According to local media reports, Seminole County Sheriff's Office depties were alerted by prosecutor on Tuesday that a warrant had been issued for Zimmerman, 25, for lying about her husband's finances while under oath. Earlier this month, a judge revoked bail for George Zimmerman, after the court concluded that he has his wife had misled the court about the state of their finances in his initial bond hearing.
Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder in the April shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. The former neighborhood watch volunteer shot Martin, who was unarmed, while patrolling a Sanford, Fla., gated community. Zimmerman insists he fired his weapon in self defense after the teen attacked him and bashed his head against the sidewalk.
Shellie Zimmerman's arrest came after prosecutors in her husband's case told Judge Kenneth Lester that the couple did not disclose more than $200,000 in donations George Zimmerman received via a website set up to raise funds toward his legal defense.
Both of the Zimmermans are currently residing in Florida's Seminole County Jail.
