Georgetown Students Walk Out As Mike Pence Decries 'Woke Agenda' In Speech
Mike Pence's detractors walked out on him while he was in the middle of delivering prepared remarks during a conservative event at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. on Wednesday.
The walk-out happened around the 25-minute mark when Pence repeated his opinion that big corporations, media, and the government are conspiring against the freedom of Americans.
"It seems like every day a new story breaks that says big media, big government, big tech or big business have locked arms to advance a woke agenda designed to advance the policies and beliefs of the American left, and show intolerance to people that have divergent views," Pence said.
The students began walking out at this point and continued to protest outside the building. Meanwhile, Pence's ad-libbed response to the same drew applause from those still sitting in the audience.
"It seems to me that having served many years in Washington, leaders in the nation's capital have never been more out of touch or more intent on imposing their agenda or walking out on people that might have a different point of view," he says as the video shows people in the audience walking out, according to The Hill.
Pence tweeted something similar in August, "Today, American freedom is under attack like never before. Big media, big government, even big business have locked arms to advance a pernicious woke agenda designed to control the American people and destroy the American Dream!"
During the 30-minute speech, Pence also criticized the Biden administration, said the GOP is going to sort out leadership and didn't give a definitive answer when asked if he'd vote for Trump if he runs for President in 2024.
"I can't identify a policy that I agree with in the Biden administration. But again, you know, I think I think you could say that some of these ideas are bad without saying they're a bad person," he said.
The Biden-Harris administration "unleashed a tidal wave of left-wing policies that have in many ways wiped out the progress that we've made to the detriment of the American people," Pence continued.
During the session, the former vice president also took questions from the students, and when asked, he declined to rule himself out as a future contender for the presidency.
"When I tell you as I have every confidence that the Republican Party is going to sort out leadership, all my focus has been on the midterm elections and it'll stay that way for the next 20 days," he said, reported ABC News. "But after that, we'll be thinking about the future -- ours and the nation's -- and I'll keep you posted."
