A man accidentally shot his three-year-old daughter in the neck while handling his gun. The incident took place in Atlanta, Georgia.

Paramedics rushed to an apartment off Cleveland Avenue early Friday (March 20) morning and found the girl with a gunshot wound. The victim was immediately rushed to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Investigation revealed that the girl’s father, identified as 28-year-old Sahir Duvall, was handling his gun when the weapon accidentally discharged.

A police spokesperson said the man “unintentionally shot himself in the hand” and “a part of the bullet struck Mr. Duvall’s daughter in the neck.” The father was arrested and charged with reckless conduct. He was then taken to the Grady Memorial Hospital detention center. The man and his daughter were in a stable condition.

Speaking about the girl’s condition, Captain F. Turner, said, "Fortunately she is stable, alert, conscious and breathing.”

According to the online jail record, the accused has been arrested 16 times in the last 15 years. Most of the times, he was arrested for aggravated assault charges. The accused was most likely to be booked into the Fulton County Jail following his release from the hospital.

In a similar incident earlier this month, a man in Arkansas accidentally shot himself while cleaning his pistol. Police responded to a home after receiving a report of someone being shot. The officers found 43-year-old Michael Gage bandaging his arm. He told the officers that he was handling his .40 caliber pistol when the weapon discharged and “went through his arm and into the wall behind him.”
