Georgia Man On The Run Arrested Weeks After He Allegedly Strangled, Killed Pregnant Woman
A Georgia man on the run after being accused of murdering a pregnant woman and her unborn child has been arrested after he turned himself in to cops Tuesday, police said.
Max Rocael Calel Sanic, 20, from Gainesville was arrested on charges of one count of malice murder and one count of felony feticide for killing 22-year-old woman, Juana Jose, and her fetus, 11 Alive reported.
Emergency officers responded to the woman's residence on Jan. 29 after they received a report of a medical call. Juana was rushed to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
"Due to the nature of the call and suspicion surrounding the death, investigators began looking into the case," an investigating officer said, Law & Crime reported. An autopsy report revealed that Juana died of strangulation.
Around a week after the incident, officials zeroed in on the suspect, Sanic, who is described as a "known associate" of Juana. Officials have not released the nature of the relationship between Sanic and Juana.
According to Juana's brother, Jaimie Carmelo Jose, his sister was found unresponsive in her bed when he woke up in the morning.
"I really don't know what happened, maybe he [Sanic] got mad at her or something like that," Jaimie said, adding that the two were just friends and not dating.
Sanic is currently held in the Hall County Jail without bond, court documents reveal.
In a similar incident a few months back, a 17-year-old boy in Florida was arrested for murdering a 16-year-old pregnant girl and her unborn child. The teen suspect, Lorenzo Michael Larry was charged with second-degree murder for allegedly killing the 20 weeks pregnant woman, De'Shayla Ferguson, and her unborn child on Oct. 24.
Ferguson was found shot dead outside a residence after she was reported missing on Aug.12. Investigators believe that the expecting teen was fatally shot after an argument with Larry. Larry was previously arrested on a slew of gun charges and allegedly murdered a young woman by firing her in the head last year. He was charged as an adult in Ferguson's case.
