Georgia Mother Charged With Murder For Death Of Baby Dropped During Fight
A Georgia mother is being charged with murder in the wake of a fight where she allegedly dropped her baby.
The original incident occurred on July 19th when 26-year-old Karen Lashun Harrison got into a confrontation with a woman outside Thomas Beauty Supply in Moultrie, Georgia. Harrison was holding her 3-month-old baby when she got into an argument with another woman when the woman swung her grocery bag at Harrison’s head. Harrison then dropped her baby on the ground and began fighting.
Once things had settled down, Harrison took her child home before taking the baby to Colquitt Regional Medical Center to be treated for a head injury the next day. The baby died from the injuries later that day despite doctors’ best efforts.
Investigators began looking into the baby’s injuries and were originally told by Harrison that they occurred after a friend accidently dropped the baby. Harrison’s friend, Carneata Clark, also told police the same thing when approached for a statement.
However, police found security footage not long after this from the parking lot that depicted the fight and Harrison dropping her baby.
The Moultrie Police Department later announced in a statement Harrison will also be facing charges of felony murder, first degree cruelty to children, second degree cruelty to children, simple battery, and affray. Clark is also facing charges of making a false statement and obstruction of justice.
