Georgia Murder-Suicide: Man Shoots Ex-Lover, Her Brother Before Killing Self
In an apparent case of murder-suicide, a man was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Rome, Georgia. Police arrived at 107 Whittier Avenue Saturday after receiving reports of "shots fired."
When authorities arrived at the scene, they found a male victim in the driveway of the residence. They then were able to make contact with a gunshot wound victim inside the residence. According to officials, a female resident of the home informed police that she had been hit in the abdomen and that the male shooter was dead.
Officers entered the home and removed the female victim and transported her to a hospital. Doctors said that the female victim was expected to survive. Police later revealed that the female victim had filed a domestic incident complaint against the male suspect.
The woman did not want any legal action to be taken and that she was not physically abused, but wanted to document the complaint for family court purposes, according to police.
The female victim indicated to police that she had an intimate relationship with the male suspect and the two lived together at the home where the shooting took place, according to local media. Police also revealed the weapon used in the shooting was a 12 gauge shotgun, which was found at the scene.
The other victim involved in the incident was the brother of the female victim. It remains unclear why the male suspect shot the two people. The investigation is ongoing and more details will be released later, police said.
In another recent incident in Georgia, a 51-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his 83-year-old mother before turning the gun on himself at their home in Gwinnett County. Police said that the two people died at the home on the 700 block of Highland Ridge Pte. They were identified as Russell Fiveash, 51, and June Fiveash, 83.
Authorities arrived at the scene after receiving a call to perform a welfare check but found the mother and son pair dead. The motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
"At this time, it appears as though Russell shot and killed June before killing himself," Cpl. Collin Flynn said. "June was identified as Russell’s mother. A welfare check was originally called in by a hospice nurse that was scheduled to meet with June. Investigators are continuing to investigate this incident."
