A couple in Augusta, Georgia, was arrested on charges of cruelty to a child in connection with the death of their 6-month-old son Tuesday.

The deceased child's parents were previously charged with murdering their 1-year-old son last year, reports said.

The 6-month-old child, identified as Samson Scott, was pronounced dead Tuesday night at Augusta University Medical Center after he was brought to the facility unconscious. The hospital officials called the cops, referring to the death as suspicious.

The police then contacted the infant's parents, Tyrone Christopher Scott, 36, and Salena Devine Tyler, 23, who claimed the child fell unconscious after he was left alone in the living room on a reclining couch. Tyrone said the child, who was placed "kind of on his back," was later found unconscious when he checked on him after 40 minutes, The Augusta Chronicles reported.

Meanwhile, the police said the officials would be conducting an autopsy to find out the exact cause of Samson's death.

According to reports, the infant lived in extreme conditions, including roach infestation and exposure to illegal drugs and alcohol. The officers believe the couple was under the influence when the incident happened, and must have left the child alone in another room for about two hours, News Channel 6 reported.

Both Tyron and Salena were arrested in February 2021 on charges of murder and cruelty to children in the first degree for the death of their 1-year-old son.

However, their warrants were dismissed for lack of sufficient evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, August Judicial Circuit District Attorney Jared Williams told News Channel 6. Further details about the case remain unclear.

Meanwhile, the family's neighbors said they were shocked by Samson's tragic death, a year after the demise of the 1-year-old child.

"Just the little baby right here, just lifeless inside the fire truck when I came over here," a neighbor, identified as Jennifer Tollison, told the outlet. "I have only seen that baby, a couple of times and, yeah, I knew about that story too and that's why I'm like 'again, this happened again," Tollison added.

The investigators said, along with probing the recent death, they would also be looking into previous charges against the couple.
