Georgia Woman Gives Unexpected Birth At A McDonald's
A woman in Atlanta gave birth at a McDonald's location last week as she and her fiance were on their way to the hospital. Three of the restaurant's employees helped deliver the baby girl.
Alandria Worthy held back on going to the hospital right away until she felt her contractions were close enough. Her fiance Deandre Phillips was driving her to the hospital that was about 45 minutes away when Worthy asked to stop for a bathroom break.
Worthy's water broke while she was going to the bathroom.
"I immediately felt like I had to use the bathroom. I went into the bathroom and my water broke immediately. It was an experience because it happened so fast," Worthy told local media.
Tunisia Woodward, the manager for the McDonald's location, had gone to check on screaming that she had heard coming from the bathroom.
Worthy told Woodward that she was in labor.
Woodward said she was shocked by the situation and was relieved as the workers helped her give birth. One of the employees immediately called 911.
"I thought they were joking ... she was on this toilet lying back, screaming. Then I knew to tell my crew -- we're having a baby today," Woodward said.
Phillips eventually rushed inside after Worthy's bathroom break was taking too long. Worthy explained she feels his "instincts kicked in immediately" once he realized what was happening.
"She was on the toilet screaming. I was trying to calm her down because she was frantic. I was like, 'just breathe.' I got her on the floor, and I took off my clothes. The ladies at McDonald's were at her front side, holding her hands. I had her feet propped up on my knees. We told her to push three pushes. She was a fighter," Phillps told local media.
The baby, named Nandi Ariyah Moremi Phillips, arrived healthy after 15 minutes. She has been given the nickname "Little Nugget."
