Rumors have been haunting fans for a while as to whether or not 2009's Atari-published “Ghostbusters: The Video Game” would be receiving a modern-day makeover, and last week, those rumors were finally confirmed. However, the only part of the project that has seen the light of day so far is a new trailer showing updated visuals.

Originally released as a fully-licensed game revolving around the “Ghostbusters” films, the spooky title was available to play on several consoles, including PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. During gameplay, players star as an unnamed, original character within the fictional universe. The script was assisted by the writers of the original film as to keep all aspects of the story as authentic as possible.

According to Player One, this particular game is a third-person shooter. In it, you assume the aforementioned role of a new recruit on the paranormal team and explore your surroundings for any level of unusual activity. The mission style will vary as some will be solo endeavors and others will require the work of your team.

The game is set on Thanksgiving Day 1991, two years after the “Ghostbusters II” storyline. After accepting their new team member, a PKE shockwave rattles New York City, which provokes the Ghostbusters to dive into their given missions.

With the release slated for sometime in 2019, fans can look forward to playing it on the PlayStation 4, Switch, Xbox One, and PC. Until then, there is a lot to look forward to, but in terms of definitives about the game, we’ll just have to keep speculating until further details are released.
