Giants lose to Cubs 11-4, winning streak ends
The San Francisco Giants lost to the Chicago Cubs 11-4 at Wrigley Field on Friday, snapping their six-game winning streak.
The Cubs broke the game wide open in the seventh inning scoring five runs off San Francisco relievers Jeremy Affeldt and Guillermo Mota. Cubs outfielder Reed Johnson hit a bases clearing triple in the inning to give Chicago an insurmountable lead.
San Francisco starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner (0-6) gave up three runs in the bottom of the second inning, but otherwise gave a strong pitching performance through six innings. It was Bumgarner's sixth loss, in a season mired with poor run support.
Chicago pitcher Ryan Dempster (2-4) got the win after striking out 11 batters in six innings.
Andres Torres had his best game since coming off the disabled list earlier this week, scoring twice on three hits including a triple. Cody Ross added a two-run homer in the eighth, while Aubrey Huff had two RBIs for the game.
The Giants are currently on a seven game road trip, which will include two game sets against the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Dodgers, following the three game series against the Cubs.
