The New York Giants are off to a poor start, losing their first two games in the 2019-20 NFL season. And while head coach Pat Shurmur is not saying it, pundits feel that a change at the starting quarterback position may be coming. Hence, suggestions of possibly replacing Eli Manning with Daniel Jones.

The Giants dropped their second game to the Buffalo Bills, 28-14. It was a sorry loss for New York considering they were off to a good start. They took a 7-0 lead in the opening possession of the game and displayed exemplary defense in the first two possession. It was after those two possessions when the game turned ugly as the Bills scored the next 21 points, the New York Post reported.

One player singled out is Eli Manning. His inability to throw precision passes and find open receivers were raised. With the subpar performance, Shurmur was unsurprisingly asked if it was time to give Jones a try, the same guy they picked up with the 6th overall pick in the last NFL Draft.

“I don’t think that’s a conversation for right now,” Shurmur said in a report from Yahoo Sports. “Everybody’s got to get better.”

When asked on the performance of Manning, Shurmur said that the 38-year-old quarterback's play was indicative of how the team played but acknowledged that there were things that needed to be improved. But Manning is aware that he needs to do better, knowing that it is a quarterback's role.

“I’ve got to make better throws and better decisions and find a way to convert on third downs,” Manning said. “That’s a quarterback’s job.”

Heading into Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Shurmur may have just pulled a stunning move that could make or break their chances. The Giants have announced that they are starting Jones against the Buccaneers, possibly hinting that the Manning era is coming to a close, Yahoo Sports reported.

"Ultimately, this is a move that I felt was best for this team at this time. I have said it since I got here, I am very fond of Eli. His work ethic, his preparation, his football intelligence," said Shurmur.
