Giants-Packers NFL Playoffs 2012: Mayors Bloomberg and Schmitt Make Friendly Bet on Sunday Game
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Green Bay, Wis., Mayor Jim Schmitt announced Thursday that they made a friendly wager on Sunday's 2012 NFL playoff game between their hometown Giants and Packers.
Bloomberg announced the wager Thursday evening in an e-mail during which he also implored New Yorkers to wear blue as he plans to on a Big Blue Friday to show their support for the Giants.
If the Giants beat the Packers (who were last year's Super Bowl winners), Schmitt has to give local cheese curds and Titletown's Sno-Cap root beer, both of which are hometown items from Green Bay, to Bloomberg.
But if the Packers best the Giants, then Bloomberg has to send two local New York favorites to Schmitt: Junior's cheesecake - one of local rap legend Notorious B.I.G.'s favorites - and Brooklyn Salsa Company salsa. The salsa is included as part of the bet in honor of the salsa dance Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz has become famous for doing when he scores a touchdown.
The Giants are playing best when it matters most, and I know they're going to keep it up on Sunday, Bloomberg said. I have a feeling that Victor Cruz will be dancing in the end zone and the Giants will be putting the Packers' Super Bowl dreams to rest just like they did four years ago. And our salsa and cheesecake will be staying right here in Brooklyn.
But Schmitt said he has faith in his Packers, and that he expects to be munching on salsa and cheesecake soon.
The Lambeau Leap will always trump a touchdown salsa dance! Schmitt said. We have the best team in the NFL and I look forward to another win.
