Amazon is rebooting “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” with a TV series.
The streaming giant has teamed up with Left Bank Pictures to work on a project that would focus on Lisbeth Salander, the hacker character in Stieg Larsson’s “Millenium” trilogy, according to Deadline. Larrson’s “Millenium” trilogy is one of the most-acclaimed trilogies in the world of crime novels.
However, the upcoming series will have a new setting. Amazon is planning to put Salander in today’s world and introduce new characters.
Left Bank Pictures has been associated with shows like “The Crown” and “Outlander.” Both shows have received universal acclaim and had a huge production budget.
Sony Pictures TV is also associated with the project. The production company distributed David Fincher’s “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” movie worldwide.
“The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” tells the story of a journalist named Mikael Blomkvist (played by Daniel Craig in the film), who hires computer hacker Lisabeth Salander (played by Rooney Mara) to solve the mystery of a woman who has been missing for 40 years.
Salander is a complex character and has a history of surviving many severe emotional and sexual abuses.
The film received universal acclaim for its somber tone. Mara’s acting skills garnered a lot of applause and took her popularity to a whole new level. The esteemed actress was nominated in the Best Actress category at the 84th Academy Awards for her role in the movie. The feature film was nominated for four more Oscars and won the Best Film Editing trophy.
The movie accumulated more than $232 million globally and became Fincher’s fourth highest-grossing movie of all time. Only “Gone Girl” ($369 million), “The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button” ($335 million), and “Se7en” ($327 million) earned more than “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.”
This is Amazon’s another attempt to successfully bring out a project based on the best-selling novels. The streaming giant is also working on a “Lord Of The Rings” series and is slowly moving forward by casting its main character.
This will be a prequel series that will be set long before Frodo and the Fellowship set out to Mordor to destroy the ring. Peter Jackson, who directed the original “LOTR” film trilogy, will not be directly involved in the production, but he has offered to share his insights with the makers of the TV series.
