A man in India had to pay a heavy price for scolding his sister. He had to spend more than two years in prison after the girl falsely accused him of rape.

The 24-year-old unidentified man from Mumbai, the financial capital of India, is now acquitted of all charges after the girl testified before a court that the allegations she made in the criminal complaint were baseless. The unidentified girl told the court that she accused her brother of rape because he scolded her for going out with her boyfriend, The Indian Express reported.

The man was arrested in 2019 on sexual abuse of a minor and rape charges after the girl accused him of sexually assaulting her at their home while the parents were away, Zee News reported.

After spending more than two years in jail, he was acquitted last week. The girl also admitted that she did not undergo a medical examination after filing the criminal complaint to prove she was sexually assaulted.

The court observed that there was no evidence to prove the girl was a minor during the alleged assault. There were numerous contradictions and omissions in her testimony, the court said.

"The girl has resiled from her own statement so I am constrained to hold that because of the contradictory, unbelievable testimony of the victim and insufficient evidence offense… has not been proved against the accused," the court said.

In April, a woman in California who was framed by her ex-fiancé's wife won a lawsuit and accepted a settlement from the city of Anaheim and four of its police officers. Michelle Hadley, from Orange County, was jailed for 88 days in 2016 after her ex-fiance, Ian Diaz, and his then-wife, Angela Diaz, falsely accused her of soliciting men online to participate in a "rape fantasy." However, the charges against Hadley were dropped and Angela was sentenced to jail in 2017. Investigators found that Angela had sent fake emails and also responded to rape fantasy advertisements.
