Girl Found Asleep In Car Struck By Bullets Following Shooting In Alabama
A young girl, believed to be about 4 years old, was found fast asleep inside a vehicle that police towed after a shooting in Alabama on Thursday.
Birmingham Police ransacked the SUV based on a tip-off from an unknown caller regarding the presence of a baby at the rear end of the vehicle hours after the shooting and discovered her in the midst of a large pile of clothes sleeping. The child, who police said was unharmed, was placed with Children’s of Alabama, a child protective service, for further evaluation, Penn Live reported. Police said she was there in the vehicle for at least two hours.
Authorities responded to a call citing a shooting in the 900 Block of Avenue G at around 7:51 a.m. (EST), where they spotted a 2002 Ford Explorer with several bullet shots. Police observed blood inside the vehicle sans any sign of a victim. The vehicle was then towed to an auto wrecker service to be processed by an evidence technician without the remotest idea about the child’s presence in it.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting was domestic in nature involving the child’s mother and her boyfriend. Evidence suggests that the duo exchanged gunfire while the child was inside the vehicle. Police speculated the possibility of the child being present in the vehicle the entire time of the shooting.
Police said the investigation was ongoing, and urged anyone with further information to reach out to them.
In October, a toddler dodged a stray bullet thanks to a baby shark stuff toy that absorbed it. The 3-year-old girl was sleeping in her bedroom when a gunfight erupted in the neighborhood and a few bullets made it inside their apartment complex by piercing the wall. The child was positioned at the foot of the bed holding the stuffed toy when a bullet hit about five inches away. Police discovered at least 45 shell casings at the scene.
