‘Girlboss’ Canceled By Netflix After One Season; Was It Expected?

Netflix has decided to cancel Britt Robertson’s series, “Girlboss,” after only one season.

According to Deadline, “Girlboss” is the third Netflix series to have been canceled within the last couple of weeks. The comedy show followed the life of Nasty Girl founder Sophia Amoruso (Robertson), a hustler who realized that she can buy vintage fashion at thrift stores and re-sell them for a huge sum of money on eBay. All 13 episodes of “Girlboss” were written by Kay Cannon. Amoruso also announced the axing of “Girlboss” via her Instagram Stories.

Earlier this month, Netflix also canceled “Sense8” after two seasons. Fans of the series were not pleased with the streaming giant’s shocking decision, so they started a petition on Facebook that reached the people behind “Sense8.” Unfortunately, a post on the show’s official Facebook page revealed that the petition could not save the series.

Meanwhile, it seems that viewers of “Girlboss” will not do a similar thing for the newly-axed series. After all, the comedy did not receive much discussion even before it premiered on April 21. “Girlboss” was also released less than a month after “13 Reasons Why.” The latter, which told the story of the suicide of Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford), sparked more serious and important discussions.

On TV Line, fans shared their thoughts on the cancellation news. Some of them were concerned over the fact that Robertson’s shows kept getting canceled. Another fan claimed that some reviews noted that Robertson’s acting did not do the series any justice.

Despite Netflix not really revealing the real reason behind their decision, other viewers speculated that “Girlboss” not getting a big viewership may be what made them pull the plug. One fan hinted on the possibility of the production costing too much so Netflix ultimately had to end the series.
