Girls' Generation Members To Reunite After 4 Years Of Solo Careers
Members of Girls' Generation are all set to reunite in a Variety show four years after their last performance as a group.
In celebration of the group's 14th founding anniversary, Yoona, Yuri, Tiffany, Seohyun, Sooyoung, Hyoyeon, Sunny and Taeyoon will reunite in TVN's variety show "You Quiz On The Block," reported Korea Herald.
The group's guesting date is yet to be finalized as the show suspended its taping recently. The suspension was announced after a staff member of the show tested positive for COVID-19. As for show host and veteran comedian Yoo Jae-seok, co-host Jo Se-ho and the rest of the staff, they all tested negative for the virus.
Taping will resume next month with Girls' Generation or So Nyeo Shi Dae (SNSD), the group's Korean name, leading the schedule for its guest artists.
Although SM Entertainment has not formally announced the disbandment of the group, its members have been actively pursuing solo careers since 2017. They have also been appearing regularly on each other's social media channels.
Im Yoon-ah, more popularly known as Yoona, has starred in five movies, including "Happy New Year" with Lee Dong Wook. Stephanie Young, also known as Tiffany Young, released multiple singles including her 2019 single "Runaway" in collaboration with R&B powerhouse Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds.
Kim Hyeo-yeon or Hyoyeon also released multiple singles, including "Wannable," featuring rapper SanE in June 2017. Meanwhile, former member Jessica Jung, who left the group in 2014, is now a notable entrepreneur and fashion designer. She was included in the "Forbes 30 Under 30" list in 2017.
Girls' Generation debuted in August 2007 and easily became one of South Korea's most popular girl groups.
It has spawned several hits including "Gee" (2009), "Genie" (2010), "Run Devil Run" (2010) and "Mr. Mr." (2014).
The album "Holiday Night," which was released in August 2017 in celebration of the group's 10th anniversary, is Girls' Generation's last music to date.
According to Korea Times, a rumor claiming that the group was preparing to release a new album emerged in February. However, SM Entertainment said they have not yet decided on the matter.
On Twitter, SNSD fans or "SONE" celebrated the upcoming reunion of the girls.
