Giuliana Rancic Breast Cancer: E! Host a Wreck Before Revealing Illness

Giuliana Rancic, host of E! News, announced she has breast cancer on the Today show Monday morning.

The cancer was detected early, she said, while she was undergoing a third attempt at in vitro fertilization; she has chronicled her difficulties getting pregnant on her reality show.

Through my attempt to get pregnant for the third time, we sadly found out that I have early stages of breast cancer, Rancic said. It's been a shock. A lot of people have been asking, we saw that you went and got IVF, are you pregnant? But sadly, we've had to put that off.

Rancic told NBC Today Show Host Ann Curry that the she will undergo surgery this week, then radiation treatment.

She went public with her diagnosis, she told Ryan Seacrest in an interview, in order to give other women the shove to get tested, despite being incredibly nervous about sharing it with the world, the Washington Post reported.

I feel like such a heavy weight has been lifted off my shoulders, Rancic told Seacrest. I've been keeping this secret from a lot of dear friends for a while now and it's nice to get it out there and not hide it anymore.

Still, Rancic she and her husband, Bill, will be able to resume IVF after her cancer treatment.

I still want this baby, because this baby has saved my life, she said. I truly feel God was looking after me. If I had gotten pregnant later down the line, I could have been a lot sicker.

E! released a statement, saying they applaud her for sharing her recent breast cancer diagnosis in the hope that it will encourage women everywhere to take necessary and preventative measures.

Rancic's celebrity friends and co-workers have offered well wishes on Twitter.
