Giuliana Rancic Breast Cancer Update: 'I'm Good'
Longtime E! News host Giuliana Rancic has spoken out about her breast cancer update, one month after undergoing a double lumpectomy.
I'm good. I'm hanging in there. I have good days and bad days, but so far so good, the 37-year-old told Parade.
I'm very optimistic and I'm just happy to have caught it early, she added.
In October, Rancic appeared on The Today Show and announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. The discovery of her cancer happened during a routine mammogram that was ordered by a fertility doctor.
Rancic and her husband Bill Rancic have been trying to get pregnant through IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) since 2009, a process that has been publicly displayed on their reality TV show, Giuliana and Bill.
It's been a shock. Because I recently found this out and a lot of people have been asking . . . are you pregnant? But sadly we've had to put that off, because of the news, Rancic told Ann Curry at the time.
The same week, Rancic underwent the double lumpectomy, and returned to host E! News less than a week after surgery.
Keeping busy has been key, according to Rancic, who hosts the nightly entertainment news program with Ryan Seacrest.
I think it's just about appreciating it . . . it seems crazy and it's a long day and it's exhausting, but whenever I feel it's too much, I take a step back and think this is such a great job. I'm so fortunate to have it, she told Parade.
Since being treated for breast cancer, Rancic has been highly active on Twitter, mostly sticking to posts about entertainment news, healthy eating, movies and the Thanksgiving holiday. The veteran TV host has also been posting inspiration quotes on her Twitter feed.
If there is no struggle, there is no progress. -Fredrick Douglass, Rancic recently wrote.
Twitter has also been a major highway of communication for Rancic and her fans, who have been sending messages of support.
I really relied on a lot of those messages I was receiving through Twitter and email and through blogs right before the surgery and the week I was recovering. I know it sounds so cliché, but I think it helped me recover quicker and it got me in better spirits, Rancic told Parade.
The word I kept seeing over and over again was 'strong.' 'Be strong, you're strong,' she added.
On Oct. 25, Rancic was nominated for a People's Choice award -- but rather for her hosting duties, the nod was for Favorite TV Celebreality Star. Gene Simmons, Kathy Griffin, Kim Kardashian and Tia and Tamera Mowry are also nominated in the category.
Rancic, who is near the end of her six and a half week radiation program, recently hosted a fashion show in Miami.
The People's Choice Awards airs on Jan. 11.
