‘Glee’ Season 6 Rumors: Problems On Set? Production Reportedly Delayed; Episode Order Shortened
“Glee” Season 6 might be looking at a lot of changes. Production on the series might be delayed and the series is likely looking at a shorter episode order. Assistant editor Matthew Smith tweeted that he wouldn’t start working until Sept. 1. The series usually starts filming in July.
Last year, production was also delayed due to Cory Monteith’s death. This delay could be for a number of reasons, and audiences have to wonder why they would make the decision so close to when the start of filming. This decision is probably creatively driven. Fox had announced in May that the musical comedy would not return until winter 2015. With a midseason premiere date, filming can easily start a little later without affecting the airing schedule.
Most midseason shows also have shorter episode orders. While Fox hasn't made any announcements, Matthew Morrison confirmed that the upcoming and final season would be shortened. “Next year we’re doing 13 episodes,” Morrison said in an interview with JournalNow.
Fox also shortened the comedy’s episode order last season. According to the Hollywood Reporter, two episodes were cut because of last year’s unexpected production hiatus. Yet it was hard to ignore the network cut back on episodes after ratings were consistently low last season. “Glee” ratings hit an all-time low last season with their finale bringing in 1.9 million viewers.
Fans who have stayed with the show know that the storylines hit a lot of bumps before Monteith’s death when half of the characters graduated college and new high school students were added. "Glee" only spent half of Season 5 in Ohio before dropping the new high school characters and focusing on the New York group. The season ended with Rachel heading to Los Angeles, Kurt and Blaine staying with Artie in New York and Sam heading back home to Ohio. Plans about how all the character will come back together have yet to be revealed, but with only 13 episodes, hopefully the writers put them all back in one city quickly.
“Glee” will return to Fox in 2015. Are you disappointed that there is a longer wait for a shorter season?
